I designed this artwork after looking at vintage editions of famous fashion magazines from the 60s and 70s, several of which were shot in Iran (featuring Lauren Hutton and the Empress of Iran, Farah Pahlavi).
Those were the "good-old-days" when Iranian women were free to express themselves through their love of fashion, hairstyles, makeup, etc. The society was turning its gaze toward the future and everything Western from London, Paris and New York was in vogue in Tehran.
Contrast that to the dark and dismal dress code imposed upon Iranian women resulting from the 1979 Islamic revolution which forced women to cover up every aspect of their femininity, as if they didn't exist at all.
It's been more than 40 years and who knows how much longer it will take for Iranian women in Iran to regain their liberties but in the meantime, this Iranian woman takes full artistic liberty to dream of a future in which a Vogue cover shot in Iran becomes a reality once again.
